ATCO Ridge & Downslope Ventilators

Product Details

Ridge & Downslope Roof Ventilator allows hot air to escape through the vents while preventing cold air and moisture from entering. The ventilator works by using a combination of wind and thermal actions which the wind creates a vacuum effect that pulls the hot air out of the attic.

  • Supply in completely knocked down components
  • Fully contained unit can be used as a single vent or in a continuous run
  • Continuous “weep” at the bottom of wind band for water drainage
  • High quality aluminium-zinc coated or pre-painted cold roll steel
  • Rugged, maintenance-free construction
  • Maximum air flow performance

HOW DOES IT WORK?

BECAUSE WARM AIR RISES AND COOL AIR STAYS LOW, THIS PROCESS FORCES WARM AIR UP

Heat generated within buildings rises towards the roof. In large buildings, where the structure is of significant height, the natural tendency of warm air to rise generates air movement throughout the entire building. This is what is commonly known as thermal buoyancy (or the stack effect). Warm air rises through the structure and escapes via the natural ventilator.

The wall louvers at the floor level allow cool air to enter, replacing the warm air that escapes.

WHAT IS AN AIR CHANGE RATE?

AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

An air change rate (ACH) is the number of times every hour that new air from outside enters a building and is mixed and exchanged with old air from inside. The higher ACH will outcome better thermal comfort. The recommended ACH for each type of buildings are identified in the table.

AIR CHANGE RATE FOR DIFFERENT TYPE OF BUILDINGS

The optimal airflow design will increase comfortable in works and productivities. The most common term used to refer to the amount of outside air that needs to be introduced into a building is Air Changes per Hour (ACH). The ACH can vary widely depending upon what is going on inside the building: for example – it is generally considered that 4 ACH’s is the minimum air change rate for any commercial or industrial building.
